Show 'N' Shine This is traditionally the first club event of the year to ease back into club activities after the Christmas holiday break. The Show 'N'Shine is a picnic and display day featuring our favourite Volvo's and is held in February. This usually takes place at Prince Edward Park, Woronora, 12 noon onwards. Open event to members & their families and visiting Volvo club members. Trophies are awarded. Motorkhana - Next Event ..................... run by Fiat Car Club. Ansell Park, Richmond (Sydney west) The Motorkhana's have been used as a training ground for our junior members before they get their learners permit. This has been of great benefit of to some of our junior members who have gone on to compete in general competition racing as they enter their adult years. The motorkhana event itself involves driving around a series of specifically placed flags. The flags consist of two colours, one colour signifies a left turn, the other a right turn. The goal is to complete the course as quick and tidy as possible with penalty times applied if the driver connects with the flags of the course or garage. The junoir drivers are accompanied by a experienced and/or liscenced race driver from the club's competition side club (The Volvo Sporting Car Club). These events are also a good chance for families to enjoy a day out together as the competition is more social and friendly based. Requirements: Junior & Senior licence level 2NS, must be at least 12 years of age. See http://www.cams.com.au/ Hillclimb - Wakefield Pk, Goulburn was the original venue for our events but from 2008 no longer holds hillclimbs. Alternate venues are Dapto and Canberra (SDMA Fairbairn Park). Link to SDMA. A Hillclimb course is on bitumen, approximately 1 km in length, and the challenge is to cover the course in the shortest possible time. You have around 5 runs of the course during the day, one car at a time. Each driver enjoys his own personal race against the clock for the fastest time ! All vehicles are divided into types and classes so you compete against other cars of similar performance and modification. Supersprint This event consists of a sprint around a race track for a set number of laps where the drivers are racing against themselves (not against each other), where the fastest individual lap time wins. The VSCC has previously ran many supersprints at Wakefield Park, Goulburn NSW, but due to increased costs of track hire, we now encourage members to join in with other clubs running supersprint days. Supersprints are a good fun & affordable. They also serve as a trying ground to see if a driver would like to progress to the next level (general competition racing). Requirements: CAMS licence level 2S or higher, at least 16 years of age. For Wakefield Park private / club events, a Wakefield Park licence is required (valid 12 mths), and is purchased at the track. General Competition Racing This is the highest level of racing some members compete in, and involves drivers racing against each other on the track at the same time. Types of GCR include state chamionships, national chamionships and historic racing (140/160's). The event that the club currently uses as its benchmark is the Alfa Romeo 6HR at Eastern Creek raceway, where many different types of car clubs come together to enjoy a common passion in motorsport. Requirements: Licence level (CAMS class PC or NC), at least 18 years of age.
